Plan of Salvation

People hold many varying views as to how to make it to Heaven. The only approach that is guaranteed is God’s. The Bible says:

“9That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”  Romans 10:9-10

“38Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”  Acts 2:38

God’s plan for salvation is simple:
Believe: The road to Heaven begins with faith. Greek is the original language of the New Testament section of the Bible, the section we live under today. Believe, faith, and trust are all the same word in the Greek. It is a much stronger word than the way we commonly use it. It is a complete and total trust that always demands a response. For instance, James 2:19 says, “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that-and shudder.” The response of the demons’ belief is trembling with fear. What is the response of one giving his/her life to Christ? The following three words.

Confess: Literally in the Greek, “to say the same thing.” This word can also be translated profess, claim and admit. It could be used of someone confessing, or admitting their guilt. In this case it is openly admitting your belief that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. Titus 1:16 , speaking of some wicked people, reads, “They claim [confess] to know God, but by their actions they deny him.” Not only your mouth, but your actions show your belief in Jesus. Confession is not a one time action. You confess all of your Christian life.

Repent: The Greek is literally “to change the mind.” Since your mind controls your body, it was used for two military words: “retreat” and “about face.” It was used in the sense of changing the direction of your life. When you repent you decide to change the direction of your life. You were living for self and Satan. Now you live for King Jesus.

Baptism: The Greek had totally different words for sprinkle, pour, and wash. Baptism always meant to plunge under the water, to immerse. Baptism is a beautiful picture. As a person goes under the water, it represents the death and burial of Jesus as well as the death and burial of your old person of sin. When you come up out of the water it represents Jesus rising from the dead as well as your rising to a new life in Christ. This is the point at which the forgiveness of sins is promised. (More Info)

Commonly someone asks about those who believed, but were not baptized. Hebrews 11:6 tells us, “Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” If a person ;honestly seeking to please God; does not know God wants him/her to be baptized, there is still that hope of eternal reward. But if a person knows God wants him/her to be baptized and refuses to do it, that is rebellion. A rebellious person cannot honestly claim to be earnestly seeking God. They have lost their hope.
